Ogdensburg takes gamble choosing Breeze Airways over Contour Airlines

To the point:

For the past two years Contour Airlines has served Ogdensburg with 30 seater ERJ-135/140/145 and CRJ-200 aircraft with 14x weekly round trip flights to Philadelphia (PHL). However, Contour’s contract is due to expire, and the airport board was given two options.

Other than the first option, which is obviously to extend Contour’s contract for another two or possibly four years, Breeze Airways stepped out as another potential air carrier for the area. The airline proposed daily flights to DC on Airbus A220 aircraft, which seat 137 passengers.

Author’s Opinion:

The airport board chose the latter in hopes it would turn out. In contrast to Contour, however, Breeze does not have any interline agreements with any major airline carriers. Contour has interline agreements with American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and soon to be United Airlines. If the region wanted a route to DC then talks should have occurred between the airport and Contour (the current air carrier) regarding switching the PHL flights to DCA, which is also a large American Airlines hub.
