Fort Leonard Wood airport to add flight to Chicago O’Hare

Earlier last month the Waynesvillle Saint Robert Regional Airport in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri reiterated support in a docket filing for the current essential air service (EAS) airline (Contour Airlines) to re-direct its current five weekly round trip flights to Nashville (BNA) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). Contour Airlines also serves Fort Leonard Wood to Dallas, TX (DFW) with seven weekly round trips, Contour’s switch from BNA to ORD will not affect this route.

This is arguably a good change for the area. With the nearby military base, this makes commuting much easier for service members that need to visit or leave FLW. Chicago (ORD) is also considered a “large-hub” airport, which means the airport’s boardings must be in excess of 8 million passengers annually. Whereas Nashville (BNA) is not.

No changes in subsidy are required according to the proposal sent by the FLW airport authority.

The airport’s EAS contract with Contour Airlines is set to renew on October 1st, 2024. The Chicago route will begin on the same day.
